Hello again, September…
On a very random note, I am SO glad that September is here. I must admit that I don’t function too well in the hottest months of the year, and I struggle daily, just to remain positive and calm! And of course, I tangle… Here are some snippets…

Diva Challenge Week 233 – Zenith
After giving myself a self-declared hiatus from the Diva’s guests’ challenges the last three weeks, I am pleased to see the return of the Diva herself. Zenith is a tangle fairly close to my heart. When I was in Rhode Island for CZT Seminar, earlier this Spring, Zenith [ though yet unnamed then ] was ‘discovered’ by Maria Thomas, Zentangle creator, on the morning of our second day. We even got to see and admire her original drawings on her morning newspaper. I was fortunate to take photos, which I have shared with my fellow CZTs but I will not publish here as I do not have permission [ it is, afterall, not my work! ] to do so.
I will share my own step outs instead. You can see the official step-outs for Zenith here, but the one below shows exactly how it was taught to us at CZT 18 🙂 I made it on my way home from my USA/Japan trip – by then it was my …nth flight via Delta that month and I needed to occupy myself any way I knew how. So I tangled, of course.
Zenith, is truly an ideal border tangle..
And here is my entry for this week’s challenge. Again, I’ve been playing with colours and kept it simple this time 🙂
With that, I am off to visit everyone’s work 🙂 Seeya later~
P.S. Thanks for all the visits and comments. They are always much appreciated ❤
P.P.S I don’t always check in. If you should require a response from me, or have any questions, I may be contacted at hesedetang[at]gmail.com 🙂 Have a great week!
So beautiful! And your mandala in progress is amaaaaazing!

Thank you Katie, for visiting and leaving a comment. I will put up more shots of the Opus tile as I go, I am taking such a LONG time with it. Hopefully it turns out well ^^

What lovely work and such a lot of it. The tiles for your session look fabulous, I bet your class all love it. However, the ones with gently coloured backgrounds do appeal to me too and the final one, in white on pink/mauve, is really lovely.

I love what you have done with the watercolor pencils ( must dig mine out…). Your Zenith is so delicate! Thank you for sharing your step out version. Your examples are so lovely!

Thank you so much – I had this one put aside whilst waiting for ZT HQ to release the tangle officially in their newsletter, and I had nearly forgot all about it!

Did you have any problems with the water color transferring to your pen nibs? That’s what happened to me when I tried water color pencils, but, now that I think about it, I think mine were watercolor crayons and they put down more color. You seem to have been able to achieve a light wash which is very attractive. Having visited your fair city, I can understand how the heat can get to you. We really had to pace ourselves while sightseeing there. We loved the botanical garden—but, of course, that wasn’t air conditioned and you do a fair amount of walking—-easy on a crisp fall day in New England—not so much in heat and humidity. Having now taught my first class, I realize how much work the prep is. I can’t wait to see your Opus tile when it’s finished. Will you be adding color? I hope you’re feeling better.

Heya Suzanne –
Thanks for dropping in 🙂 I have found that this whole ‘tinting thing’ works best when I let the tiles ‘rest’ at least half a day after the watercolours go on. It might take you quicker, seeing that your climate is far less humid than mine.
For efficiency’s sake, I make up a batch at a time, with different colours and colour densities. After they dry and I find that the colour is too intense for my liking, I go over it with a clean, semi-wet brush to tone it down. The trick is not to use too much water when toning the colours down.
Class prep gets easier (I’ve noticed) when one has developed a routine. I am not nearly there yet, myself, but I am confident you will get into the swing of things very soon 🙂
P.S. The Opus tile sits, yet unfinished. I doubt I will add colour – I am planning to make a series of ‘traditional’ black and white Zentangles for my wall. No idea when I will actually finish what I started!!
