Updates for March – June 2015

I hope this post finds each of you well after a week of feasting and merry making! 🙂 BLESSED LUNAR NEW YEAR!! Hope you stay ‘yang’ and healthy always!

Here are some updates from my corner of the world.

Hamster Reservations Closed

Thank you for all the love you have shown our little Hamstery over the last twenty years, in one way or another 🙂

A short while ago, we announced that reservations were open for our hamster family’s 8th generation. Since then, we have been blessed with the arrival of two healthy litters of Roborovskis from Hazelnut Frappe and Almond Roca.

We have enjoyed tremendous favour and support and are pleased to report that both our litters have been ‘over-subscribed’. With full hearts, we are closing reservations for the time being. If you have already been placed onto our waiting list, this announcement does not affect you.

Here are some photos of the first litter for your viewing pleasure 🙂

N.B: Fresh reservations (for our 9th generation) may be placed when we open the call for reservations again. The next call for reservations looks to take place sometime in the final quarter of 2015 (given how fast this year seems to be going!).

Zentangles – Diva Challenge Wk 191

I am so happy to see clearer skies this week here in Singapore! My throat and nasal passages join me in thanksgiving ^^ They still feel swollen, but cleaner air, even if just slightly cleaner, is ALWAYS a welcome improvement.

After hitting a real physical low and being in much pain last week, I am happy, almost gleeful, that I have been able to get many things done and out of the way as possible, these couple of days.

To ‘celebrate’ I decided to start tangling in my new-old (or is it old-new), upcycled art journal. In Jan 2011, I purchased this little gem of a journal from Marmalime on Etsy. (See item page on Etsy: _https://www.etsy.com/transaction/41184876 ) (Clicking the images below will take you to Flickr.)

New-old/Old-new Upcycled Art Journal

New-old/Old-new Upcycled Art Journal

It is an entirely handbound journal, using upcycled and recycled materials. The cover is made from upcycled plastic from a Canadian factory and is lined on the inside with felt made from recycled plastic bottles. The pages are 98lb acid free, mixed media, recycled paper and each section is lined with a sheet of black cardstock.

I love upcycling and giving fresh life to the mundane. So this journal really ‘spoke’ to me and I am a fan of Marmalime’s stuff.

New-old/Old-new Upcycled Art Journal

I loved it so much that after writing just a page of thoughts in it, I hoarded.. ahem HID it away for some time and gradually, I forgot about all about it.

Just last month, I re-discovered it whilst moving my craft desk into another part of my home and I was super ecstatic to find it again. It was EXACTLY what I had been looking for –  I had been scouring around many craft, scrapping and stationery shops since July for an appropriate art journal to contain my growing tangling addiction, and I was getting to the point where I was thinking of compiling loose leaves into a binder with see through sleeves. I might do that at some point, but I kind of wanted something with more character of its own, and something I could tuck into my bag without adding too much more weight (does anyone else get teased about carrying a “ton of bricks”??). Measuring approximately A6 (15cm x 10.5cm) in size and about 3.5cm thick, this journal is perfect to tote around!

I am really SO thrilled about my rediscovery (oh indeed, the small things!) and whilst watching (Lee Haru and Choo Sarang on Superman Returns) reruns, I allowed my tangles to flow freely 🙂

It appears I STILL have NOT gotten all the leafy piles out of my system xD xD This is probably my _th pile!

Oh well ^^ Happy problem 🙂

Diva Challenge 191 – Betweed

This week the challenge requires us to draw Betweed in a monotangle.

Believe it or not, I had never tried Betweed prior to this challenge, so the video was really helpful 😛

Each time I watch the official tangle videos, I am struck once again, by how easy and uncomplicated Maria makes every stroke look 🙂 Also – another realisation : What Maria can do in a few minutes always takes me much longer, sometimes forever 😛 😛

Without further ado, here’s my tangle for the week..

Diva Challenge Wk 191 - Betweed

If you look closer, you’ll spot some issues I had with my white Sakura Gelly Roll pen 😛 😛

I guess I am not doing this clever tangle any justice in this week’s challenge but I certainly have made mental notes to incorporate it more often from now on 🙂

Beach Holiday

At each flea market I have attended, I enjoy not just the main experience of engaging with people, but also observing what catches the attention of most of the visitors at my stall 🙂 This helps me hone my creations to ensure they stay wearable. Colours, themes and styles are always on my mind when I am creating my pieces, and this observation process is very important, precious even, to me.

I have often noticed there was a lot of attention paid to my beachy, seaside themed items. Perhaps it is simply because we Singaporeans are all so highly strung we dream of holidays whether we are conscious of it or not 😛 😛

This inspired my resort style latest creation that features a natural Agate sliced druzy pendant, a freshwater pearl and a chunky strand of silver plated glass suncatchers.

Agate Sliced Druzy Necklace

I hadn’t even had the chance to name it – I only finished it a day or two before the flea on Saturday 😛 I usually take some time to photograph and ponder over the names for each one of a kind piece, but I didn’t have time 😛 On a whim, I took it with me to the flea, if only just to see if it would garner any positive attention.

To my amazement, it was my second sale of the day! A nice middle-aged lady was walking by my stall when she turned suddenly and grabbed it. She then started asking a whole host of questions and I knew she was smitten right away 🙂

I was so elated that it had found favour so quickly, but I didn’t get the chance to observe if it would take the fancy of other people 😛 (Thankfully I had already photographed it!! Hahahaha..)

Agate Sliced Druzy Necklace Agate Sliced Druzy NecklaceAgate Sliced Druzy Necklace

P.S. These pendants are one of a kind in shape and size, but all are large and too chunky for earrings. Each piece has different variations of the same colour – cyan. They are available for bespoke necklaces, with a turnaround time of 1 week to 10 days from payment date, as a lot of wiring work goes into each piece. I just thought I’d share this piece here, and also as a brief update for the little shop. For those who prefer not to place a custom order, there will be a few such necklaces on the online shops soon – I do need to make more and it will take me some time because each glass bead needs to be painstakingly handwired 🙂 Thank you for your patience!

Cheers!

Mid-week Updates

It has been a very productive day here! I decided it was time to update as many of my sites as I could, including the shop ^^

New to the shop today…. (click the image to visit the shop’s inventory page)

I have finally put up my tangles page as well as entries for the Diva Challenge, which has been helping to add some spice to my before-bedtime tangling routine. (Not that I was really running out of ideas yet :P) I have also created a new Flickr album to house my growing collection of tangles 😛

I am also preparing more variations of my lariat necklaces for the upcoming fleas – these did really well previously and it seems like they are really popular ^^

These will not be listed on my virtual shops, but will be available at my booth or custom orders 🙂
